2. Chosen:
I have chosen the idea of the Underwater set because I can be more experimental. I did like the Arctic idea but it has two sets which would take more work. I have a clear narrative outline for the Ocean plan with conflict and potential for more creative design and storytelling.
3. Narrative and Set:
The storyline is that a small fish befriends a huge whale. A shark swims toward the fish for an easy meal but the whale uses its fin to stop the shark. Dazed, the shark goes for the fish again but the whale moves in front to protect his little friend, the shark tries to swim over the whale to get to the fish but with a honk from his blowhole, the whale launches the shark up and away.
4. Character Profile and Sketches:
Profiles:
Fish -
timid but vivacious, here to live life to the full and make friends.
Whale -
Slow, huge, wise character, gentle giant, friendly, protective
Shark -
Primal, aggressive, selfish, lawless, but in his efforts for his sole desire he makes himself vulnerable, even as the apex predator.
5. Group:
Due to Coronavirus lockdown, it will be very difficult to co-ordinate a group meeting as gatherings are meant to be limited to two. I also want to work on my own and don't know who I would work with.
6. Production Plan:
7. Moodboard:
Art direction:
Mainly blue but mixed with other colours like purple or green. Blue light filter to seem underwater. Smooth, one-colour character models of plasticine. Small, background movement or animation if possible (extra characters or change in lighting).
8. Set Assembly:
The Set is going to be four blue walls, made of cardboard plastered in coloured paper or printed/painted design. I will have green supports made of cardboard that will hold my characters up as if swimming (to be keyed out in post-production). The set will be lit from the top and I will experiment with lighting filters and animated, colour lighting.
