P4
Constructed Set -
The set is relatively simple, it is sheets of cardboard covered in printed paper then made into the 3D supported structure.
The characters are on their elevated technical prop supports that will be keyed out, I had to bolster the Whale's support because it is much heavier. I have added fish cutouts to the back wall as well as an octopus, these are able to be animated but I it would be too many to manipulate for each frame so I will only animate the octopus. There is also some plasticine seaweed, crab and starfish that I can arrange and animate on the set for extra mise-en-scene.
a) Lighting -
The lighting is done by an electric lamp with a blue filter and cellophane diffuser held in place by tape.
b) Camera setup -
This setup should allow me to capture the set from different angles but I may choose to move the set to somewhere with more space to allow me to animate more easily.
I organised the set and then put my props onto it, I can then arrange them for the camera, considering the mise-en-scene.
d) Mise-en-Scene -
For my mise-en-scene, I have the background and the floor that look like the sea, as well as the blue lighting. I also have extra fish and an octopus in the background that I can animate but are mainly there so that the ocean is not empty besides the characters. On the sea floor, I have made a crab and starfish out of plasticine as well as some seaweed, this will bring the set to life as it won't be a blank floor.
e) Technical -
I have photographed these assets on green card so I can key them out and use them if necessary in post-production. These are able to be animated, so is the octopus on the background of the set. I have two stages of a 'thrust' cycle to animate that across the background.
